Long View recognized as an industry leader in sustainability by Microsoft Canada

In recent years we’ve become increasingly focused on our role in helping our clients become more conscious of their impact on the world around them, and promoting practices in IT that are kinder to the environment. As a company with a goal of being around for another 100 years, we are actively taking part in projects that are focused on building a healthier, more sustainable future for all. Our work in this space has been so impactful that we have been recognized by our partners with a number of awards in recent months.

Earlier this year we were named a Sustainability Changemaker by our partner, Microsoft. This was in recognition of our investment in creating government machine learning solutions for protecting the world’s oceans from overfishing as well as communities from severe flooding events. We did this by building a repeatable, scalable, cross-industry solution for the modernization of business-critical systems, and deploying state-of-the-art AI platforms to better manage business and sustainability decisions. All the while, growing 104% YOY, delivering $1.4 million in security ACR, and generating $4.3 million in net new Data & AI revenue.

The first project, a fishing company that’s sustainably harvested fish off the Pacific coast for the last 110 years, needed to better estimate annual targets for sustainable harvesting via analytical models based on abundance, biology, and catch data. Long View helped them do this by obtaining data from a variety of sensing platforms: satellites, drones, and onboard/underwater devices. Machine learning, AI, and advanced computing technologies facilitated the transmission of the data. For the second project, a municipality in Western Canada, we assisted with implementing a system for flood prediction analytics as well as improving the city’s emergency press release communications, so that they could provide the public with up-to-date information as flooding happened in real-time.

“These are just two examples of the innovative, industry-defining projects that Long View has undertaken to move the needle on sustainability,” remarks Brent Allison, CEO of Long View.

Our hope is that in taking the ‘long view’ in our own work, we will inspire others – employees, partners, clients, and competitors – to do the same. Stay tuned for more updates on our work and how we are building a better, more sustainable world for the next 100 years.
