Digital Organization Spotlight Series: Meet the People Behind Long View – Matthew Ball

Meet Matthew BallVice President at Long View Systems (Calgary)

In his Vice President role, Matthew Ball oversees the operations at Long View's Calgary Office.

In this Spotlight Series post, we get up close and personal with Matthew regarding the Digital OrganizationIn high tech for 30 years, Matthew moved to Canada from the United Kingdom in 2002 where he held various senior positions with international organizations. Through his diverse and global experience, he understands the dynamics of change and how technology can empower an organization’s workforce to achieve its strategic objectives.

In your own words,
Matthew, what does the Digital Organization mean to you?

While there are many ways you can describe the digital organization, it ultimately comes down to an organization leveraging technology to enable its business and its employees to "turn on the dime".

By providing timely, reliable and secure access to the data users need to do their jobs, you can mobilize a workforce’s ability to respond to changing requirements in such a manner that creates a substantial competitive advantage – especially when they can easily tap into the wealth of insight that exists within their organization.

In your role at Long View, how do you make the Digital Organization tangible and add value to clients?

Having a global perspective regarding technology’s evolution, including understanding the various approaches and rates of adoption at different companies, has helped me understand why initiatives succeed or fail

The one constant regarding the companies that succeed is that they recognize that it is not about the technology; it is about the business and the people. In other words, while technology may empower people, it is the people who leverage technology that drive the outcomes.

The companies whose technology projects have failed almost always adopt an if we build it, they will come mindset.” without an effective change management strategy.

Within this context of experience, digital transformation begins with a conversation about understanding the business - including what companies want to achieve through digital transformation and the role that their people will have to play in making it happen.

By supporting the team in Calgary, I help our clients make the successful transition to becoming a digital organization. I do this by focusing on how to get an organization to want to change based on a clear understanding of the positive impact and ongoing benefits of realizing the digital promise.

Why do you believe Long View is the ideal partner for clients?

We have a proven track record of success….period!

The business outcomes that we consistently see with our clients starts with our commitment to empower their end-users to work from anywhere at any time, confidently and securely. In short, it is about empowering individuals by providing them with access to anything they need to do their respective jobs within their organization to maximize their impact.

Of course, with the cloud and computing on "the edge" at the point of data capture, we provide the necessary level of digital technology agility and scalability that delivers a more timely access to data and actionable insight previously not possible with legacy platforms.
