Long View bolsters world-class MSP reputation by appointing VP of Service Delivery

May 27, 2013
CALGARY, Alberta (May 24, 2013) — Service delivery is the name of the game, and Long View’s reputation on the playing field just got another big boost. Long View (longviewsystems.com), one of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, is proud to announce that Philip Edgell has been named Vice President of Service Delivery. In recent years, Long View has achieved widespread recognition for its service delivery prowess. Edgell’s appointment is expected to propel Long View even further forward as a global leader in that space. “Service delivery is a critical part of our business operations at Long View. It’s where the lion’s share of our people spend their time. This allows us to take another step forward in how we represent ourselves in the market,” says Edgell. “Service delivery is the focus of our company, and it continues to become more and more important,” adds Edgell. “For our customers, it provides more value, because it means Long View has an executive dedicated to innovation in the service delivery area.” Long View has been recognized in recent years as an elite service provider — earning back-to-back rankings on the MSPmentor 100, which ranks the world’s top managed service providers (MSPs), in 2011 and 2012; and being named the top MSP on CRN’s Solution Provider 500 list (then known as the VAR500) in 2011. Long View President Gord Mawhinney expects Edgell’s appointment will further entrench that world-class reputation. “We’re excited to have someone on our executive who exclusively represents the service delivery component of our business and the more than 750 people at Long View who work within it,” says Mawhinney. “Phil will work with the service delivery leaders in all of our branches in Canada and the U.S. to increase the capacity, competency, and consistency of our service delivery — and continue to clearly differentiate us as a service delivery organization.” Edgell first joined Long View in 2002 as a technical consultant, and demonstrated an unwavering focus on personal and professional development by attaining his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business while working as a technical consultant for the company. Four years later, he was asked to focus on business development by spearheading the establishment of a new Long View branch office in Vancouver — holding titles of Sales Director and, most recently, Director of B.C. Operations. “Phil has been instrumental in the success we have seen in B.C. over the past few years,” remarks Mawhinney. “Over the past several months we also asked Phil to lead the development of our corporate Shared Services organization . . . he and the team have made great progress in a relatively limited amount of time.” ABOUT LONG VIEW: Long View, a true Canadian success story and one of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, began 13 years ago in Western Canada. Long View architects join global elite with VMware’s design expert certification

March 28, 2013
CALGARY, Alberta (March 27, 2013) — In the world of virtualization and cloud infrastructure, earning VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX) status is an Everest-like challenge. In a remarkable display of determination and resourcefulness, James Charter and Matt Vandenbeld have managed to reach the summit. Long View, one of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, is proud to announce that Charter and Vandenbeld, two of the company’s virtualization experts, have earned VCDX certification — an extremely rare distinction in the IT sphere. Long View’s Charter, Practice Director, Virtualization Solutions, and Vandenbeld, Technical Architect, spent hundreds of hours undergoing rigorous training and education to earn the highest level of certification available from technology vendor VMware, an industry leader in cloud and virtualization software. As a result, Charter and Vandenbeld are now among an elite worldwide group of architects undertaking the most sophisticated virtualization and cloud infrastructure projects. Only five IT experts across Canada, and 110 in total from around the world, have qualified for VMware’s stringent VCDX certification. “We’re technical people, and this is exciting technology to us,” says Charter. “But we’re really investing in these types of certification paths, and this level of accreditation, so we can deliver more robust solutions for Long View’s customers than anybody else in the geographies that we work in. “This is the highest certification that VMware has. They have certified us as global design experts,” adds Charter. “To a Long View client, this means we have the capability of applying the best practices, and the approach, to ensure the solution we’re building with them will be successful.” To earn full VCDX certification, Charter and Vandenbeld designed and implemented a refined virtualization project that demonstrated an appropriate level of background and expertise. They then successfully submitted, presented, and defended the project in person before a panel of VMware VCDX certified experts — and worked through a design and troubleshooting scenario with the panel, as well. “We want to continue to raise the bar, in terms of the level and quality of service we offer as a solution provider,” says Charter. “We’re constantly refining our skills, and constantly striving to do things in a more thorough and flexible way for our clients. “The VCDX certification is part of the advancement that Matt and I are bringing to our teams at Long View. Now that we have that certification, we hope to bring more people along with us.” Only 44 virtualization architects representing service providers worldwide have achieved VCDX certification. Long View is just one of nine VMware partners around the globe with multiple VCDX graduates. According to VMware, those who earn VCDX certification have proven their ability to design and craft a virtualization strategy while balancing the entire datacenter with a company’s business needs. Charter and Vandenbeld were the 106th and 107th IT experts in the world, respectively, to make the VCDX grade. “James and Matt have proven to the VMware certification evaluation board that they are more than qualified to design and architect a datacenter infrastructure based on the VMware platform,” says Chris Cottam, VMware’s senior director of global education. “We would recommend James and Matt as an expert resource for customers looking to optimize their IT environments.”   ABOUT LONG VIEW: Long View, a true Canadian success story and one of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, began 13 years ago in Western Canada. Long View Makes the List of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, Again

February 26, 2013
CALGARY, Alberta (February 26, 2013) — Long View, an IT solutions and services company headquartered in Calgary with offices across North America, has been selected for the second year in a row as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies. This national award sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, the National Post, and Queen’s School of Business is one of the most prestigious a company in Canada can receive. “It was an honour to make the list last year, but internally we also viewed it as a challenge. Now that we’ve made it, how do we ensure we’re still considered one of Canada’s Best Managed a decade from now? It’s an ambitious undertaking, but one I know we’re capable of” says Gord Mawhinney, President. Long View started in Calgary almost a decade and a half ago. Since then their growth has charted the sort of steep curve every company dreams about. Now with more than 1000 employees, the challenge becomes ensuring the culture doesn’t become diluted as more fresh faces fill the hallways, and new offices open their doors. According to Mawhinney, “We’ve been successful because we’ve created a work environment where people feel secure, challenged, and cared for. It means we’re able to hire the best talent. And although that approach may not sound particularly novel, in reality it’s quite a challenge, one that becomes increasingly complex as we continue to mature as an organization.” Canada's Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. “Today’s market place is not just about the investment in the product or service; it is also about the investment in the people. Long View has invested in their team to create a strong, sustainable company.” John Hughes, National leader for Canada’s Best Managed Companies program and leader of the Greater Toronto Growth Enterprise practice for Deloitte. 2012 winners of the Canada’s Best Managed Companies award will be honoured at the annual Best Managed gala in Toronto on April 16, 2013. Innovation, education, and certification: Long View makes CRN Tech Elite 250 list again

February 25, 2013
CALGARY, Alberta (February 20, 2013) — In the IT world, nothing says credibility like certification. So just consider this another well-earned shot of certification validation. Long View, one of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, is proud to announce that it has once again earned a spot on the annual CRN Tech Elite 250 list. Now in its third year of existence, the Tech Elite 250 list represents an elite group of North American IT solution providers that have invested significantly to remain on the leading edge of the data center and cloud markets. Long View is once again among this group of far-sighted solution providers that stand out from the crowd — by placing a special emphasis on the training and education required to earn the most advanced technical certifications in the business. “We are once again humbled by this very significant and prestigious award, but it also validates our commitment to obtaining some of the most difficult certifications from some of the most respected names in IT,” says Kent MacDonald, Long View’s Vice-President of Converged Infrastructure. “Ultimately, it all comes back to our customers, and the value we add to our relationship with them,” adds MacDonald. “By retaining our spot on the CRN Tech Elite 250, we’re telling our customers that Long View is working hard to deliver premium products, service, and support.” Editors at CRN worked with the UBM Tech Channel research group, as well as a team of outside experts, to compile this year’s CRN Tech Elite 250 list by defining the most important and consumer-beneficial technical certifications in the IT channel. The list is based on the level and depth of certifications from industry leaders such as EMC, IBM, Cisco, VMware, Citrix, Microsoft, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Symantec, and NetApp. CRN editors note that the expertise and certification standards being set by IT vendors are more exacting all the time. But Long View, like other nimble solution providers on the CRN Tech Elite 250 list, sees this trend as an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage — and demonstrate its technological prowess. Last year, Long View was named to the list by virtue of its 26 certifications in the data center and infrastructure space. This year, that number has grown to 43 — including Cisco Gold, Citrix Platinum, Dell Preferred, EMC VCE Coalition Partner, EMC Velocity Solution Provider, HP Elite, Microsoft Gold, Microsoft Gold Virtualization, NetApp Star, Symantec Gold, and VMware Premier, among many others. “The 2013 Tech Elite 250 list recognizes an exclusive group of solution providers that have invested in training and technical know-how to help their customers understand the benefits of some of the most sophisticated technology deployments in the market — and have shown a dedication to helping customers innovate while reducing costs,” says Kelley Damore, Senior Vice-President and Editorial Director at UBM Tech Channel. “By identifying and adapting to the skills and training needed to best serve today’s customers, members of the Tech Elite 250 have proven their commitment to delivering the products and services that today’s customers value most.” To view a sample list of this year’s CRN Tech Elite 250 winners, please visit www.CRN.com or view the February issue of the print magazine. Long View, one of the continent’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, is pleased to announce that it was recently named Adobe Systems’ No. 1 Gold Growth Partner in North America in 2012 — a direct result of the continued exponential growth enjoyed by SYNC, Long View’s popular and highly beneficial managed licensing offering. “Our Gold Partners have distinguished themselves with a very high level of confidence and commitment to Adobe,” says Chehade Semaan, Channel Account Manager with Adobe. “A growth figure of 172 per cent in one year is extremely significant — because it tells us that Long View not only understands the Adobe advantage inside out, but also has the well-earned trust of its clientele.” Long View’s Adobe business grew by 172 per cent in 2012 — allowing Long View to nail down the No. 1 spot as Adobe’s highest-growth Gold Partner on the continent — as Long View provided its customers with market-leading Adobe products via highly customized contracts. Long View offers BCNET members smart value in IT Licensing and Contract Management

November 22, 2012
VANCOUVER, Canada (November 22, 2012) — A higher-education network in British Columbia will now be able to enjoy lower IT costs, thanks to a new partnership agreement with Long View. One of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, Long View (www.longviewsystems.com) is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Master Service Agreement (MSA) with BCNET, a not-for-profit shared IT services consortium for higher education in B.C. Thanks to Long View’s expertise and strategic partnerships with technology vendors, the MSA offers BCNET members a pre-negotiated price and service contract for cost-effective software licensing and hardware support. Put simply, the MSA allows BCNET’s higher-education member institutions to reduce software licensing costs, simplify the buying process, and deliver more value for every dollar spent, thanks to Long View’s ability to optimize vendor prices by acting as a broker on behalf of BCNET members to negotiate and procure contracts with market-leading technology vendors such as Microsoft, HP, NetApp, IBM, Red Hat, Symantec, VMware, Adobe, and others. BCNET serves 12 higher-education member institutions in B.C., while its high-speed, high-capacity fiber optic advanced network interconnects 65 of the province’s higher-education and research institution sites, plus 72 colleges, schools, and universities, through the Provincial Learning Network (PLNet). “Long View is honoured to be collaborating with BCNET, a leader in shared technology services in B.C., to help drive down member costs and save the membership time and energy in managing licensing and support contracts,” says Sarah Malcolm-Morreau, Long View’s Director of Licensing and Contracts. Long View’s pre-negotiated contracts will ensure BCNET members receive the lowest price available, and maintain an efficient, streamlined buying process for higher-education institutions in B.C. “We are very excited to partner with true industry leaders that have years of experience in effectively managing client software licensing, compliance, and assets,” says Michael Hrybyk, BCNET’s President and CEO. “Long View’s highly trained vendor team will enable our higher-education member institutions to simplify the purchase and audit process, and maximize the value of every dollar invested in software licensing.” Adds Michael Thorson, the University of British Columbia’s Director Infrastructure, Information Technology: “Last year, UBC signed a contract with Long View for contract and license management, and Long View has been able to produce significant cost savings without reducing the volume of software purchased. UBC will participate in the BCNET and Long View MSA to ensure we receive the lowest price available for software licensing and hardware maintenance.”   ABOUT LONG VIEW: Long View, a true Canadian success story and one of North America’s foremost providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, began 13 years ago in Western Canada. Long View introduces its customers to NetApp’s FAS3200 series midrange storage platform

November 7, 2012
CALGARY, Alberta (November 7, 2012) — In the boardroom, just as in nature, little acorns can transform themselves into mighty oaks. And if your growing business is serious about spreading its roots, Long View knows just the data storage platform to grow along with you. Long View (longviewsystems.com), one of North America’s most dynamic providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services, is pleased to announce that it will soon make available to its valued customers a powerful, exciting new midrange storage platform recently unveiled by one of its strategic partners. NetApp, a global leader in storage and data management, has introduced new additions to the FAS3200 series, a Flash-optimized and cluster-enabled platform that serves as the foundation for an agile data infrastructure. The new systems, the FAS3220 and FAS3250, increase the performance and scalability for growing enterprises — improving performance by up to 80 per cent, and increasing storage capacity by as much as 100 per cent over their predecessor. “Growing businesses are always looking for an edge . . . and this new midrange storage solution from NetApp, the FAS3200 series, is pretty sharp and sophisticated,” says Kent MacDonald, Long View’s Vice-President of Converged Infrastructure. “These improved systems can help Long View’s customers optimize their IT environments, make the best use of their resources, and handle the rapidly changing needs of their business.” The FAS3220 and FAS3250 systems represent a superior mix of performance and capacity scaling to grow with a business. They can quickly adapt to support any application workload — reducing complexity across operations, and providing the ability to take on new projects, regardless of size. The FAS3200 series also enables nondisruptive operations, which allow transparent technology refreshes and rebalancing of workloads. This helps in eliminating planned and unplanned downtime, and improves service in several ways — bringing new applications and technologies online more easily, making changes to the environment while maintaining users’ data access, and responding in real-time to the demands of the business. The FAS3200 series can be tailored to either a virtualized, cloud or traditional environment — from a few terabytes of storage, all the way up to 2PB and more. This new midrange storage platform leverages NetApp’s clustered Data ONTAP, meaning that growing businesses can deploy an infrastructure scaling seamlessly from two to 24 storage nodes, without ever having to deal with system downtime. “NetApp is committed to providing organizations with the performance and scalability required to meet their current requirements and future growth objectives,” says Julie Parrish, senior vice-president of Global Partner Sales, NetApp. “We’re pleased to team with Long View as a trusted advisor to assist customers in simplifying and accelerating their agile data infrastructure deployments built on our new FAS3200 series products.” Balancing the data infrastructure realities of today with the growth promise of tomorrow, NetApp’s FAS3200 series delivers industry-leading performance, capacity scaling, and value to create an infrastructure foundation that accelerates business growth. To hear why the new FAS3200 series is a game changer in the midrange market, watch Brendon Howe, VP of Product and Solutions Marketing at NetApp, discuss the new platforms. NetApp made the announcement regarding its new midrange storage systems, engineered to help organizations run faster and scale further, on Monday, Nov. 5. CALGARY, Alberta (October 31, 2012) — It’s a distinction that rewards agility, flexibility, and proficiency. And Long View has just scored No. 4. For the fourth consecutive year, Long View (longviewsystems.com) — one of North America’s most dynamic providers of IT consulting, outsourcing solutions, and cloud services — has earned Cisco’s Canadian Data Center Partner of the Year award. Long View was recently tapped by Cisco, a worldwide networking leader, for the distinction during Cisco Partner Summit 2012. “Virtualization and data center architecture exist in an extremely fast-paced world. Staying ahead of the pack in the area of advanced collaboration is tricky work — it demands innovation, dedication, and adaptability,” says Kent MacDonald, Long View’s Vice-President of Business Development. “We believe that winning Cisco’s Canadian Data Center Partner of the Year honour for a fourth straight year is a truly significant achievement,” adds MacDonald. “It tells us we’re staying on top of our game — even by our own high standards.” As a leading Cisco partner, Long View is able to supply its customers with industry-leading data center solutions — constantly redefining the data center and virtualization ecosystem along with the likes of NetApp, VCE, and VMware. Data center architecture in today’s world needs to support a mobile workforce using a wide array of devices, while also incorporating cloud applications and services. To achieve this sort of flexibility, Long View offers its customers Cisco data center solutions ranging from desktop virtualization to server virtualization, enterprise applications to private cloud, integrated compute stacks to server transitioning. “Cisco is proud to partner with so many well-respected and industry-leading organizations, and it’s an honour to recognize Long View as a Cisco Partner Summit theater award winner,” says Jim Sherriff, senior vice-president of U.S. and Canada Partner Organization at Cisco. “The Canadian Data Center Partner of the Year award presented to Long View recognizes its performance and expertise as a Cisco channel partner in Canada.” Cisco Partner Summit awards are presented at three levels — global, geo, and theater. Cisco Partner Summit U.S. and Canada theater awards reflect a partner’s performance in a given geographic region of the U.S. or Canada. Long View’s award-winning partnership with Cisco includes the acceptance of a seventh straight annual Customer Satisfaction Excellence award in August. A long time Cisco Gold Certified Partner, Long View also earned Master Unified Communications Specialization in Canada last month, and earned the Cisco Cloud Builder designation within the Cisco Cloud Partner Program late last year.
