The holiday period is a time for family, friends, and giving. It’s an opportunity to be grateful for things that we sometimes take for granted, like our health. It is also a time to think about those who are less fortunate in the world, the ones who cannot be with family or friends due to health or difficult financial circumstances.
On December 28th, 2014 a friendly Long View soccer charity match was played to benefit ‘Give-A-Mile’ at the Calgary West Soccer Center. Give-A-Mile is a not for profit organization that helps those who cannot afford domestic or international flight costs to visit a family member or friend who is terminally ill through individual donations of travel points and crowd funding. The charity match raised over $400.00 which will be used to cover the flight taxes for 3 or 4 flights of compassion.
We all have the inherent power and ability to make an impact in this world and give someone the chance to say good bye one last time to a loved one who is terminally ill. Thank you to all who participated in this event and to the Calgary West Soccer Center. To learn more about ‘Give-A-Mile, please visit http://giveamile.org.
